SEASON'S GREETINGS!

Happy Holidays to you!

This is the time of year when you're supposed to get that warm fuzzy feeling inside of you. The leaves have gotten infected with stunning yellows, bright reds and flaming oranges and are falling off the trees faster than you can rake them up. You might see a jack-0-lantern or uncarved pumpkin still sitting outside on someone's porch in a bed of dry leaves that the wind has gathered there and along the curb - a leftover reminder of Halloween. Everybody's wearing dark coats and you're still wondering where you put your gloves and scarf from last year.

You sometimes see your breath in the air in front of your face. The trees downtown are strung with lights and you can see people with packages under their arms and carrying bags home after work. Garrett's caramel and cheese popcorn smells really good and if it's snowed already, you've got a love/hate thing going on with all the slush in the street.

You look forward to the sweet potato pies and, if you're a traditionalist, the greens, turkey and dressing, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, glazed ham, potato salad, apples, oranges, nuts, and hot cider.

If you're a kid, you can hardly wait for school to be out, and maybe go and pick out a real christmas tree with that real evergreen smell to it. The smell of potpourri and cinnamon is in the air and the kitchen is full of unwashed bowls with finger smears in them from tasting the mix for the apple cobbler.

I invite you to share what you like best about the holidays, new and old memories alike. Send me your favorite recollections and I'll be sure to get them up and see if we can't spread a little more holiday cheer around - that sense of joy, community, love and warmth.

Thank you and, once again, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
